Alexandra’s debut film, Monica & David, tells the love story of two adults with Down syndrome. The film won Tribeca Film Festival’s Jury Award, was nominated for an Emmy Award, premiered on HBO, and broadcast in 33 countries. The film’s DVD set a precedent for accessibility, including audio description for all content in English and Spanish. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, ABC, Harper’s Bazaar, Variety, and Latina Magazine. A Chicken & Egg Pictures Accelerator Lab grantee, she has received support from: Sundance Institute, Tribeca Film Institute, Knight Foundation, The Fledgling Fund, The Perspective Fund, and South Florida Arts Consortium. Of Cuban descent, Ali lives in Miami and is the mother of two young boys. She is currently in post-production on her latest feature documentary, Unaccompanied Children, on four siblings who fled gang violence to seek asylum in the U.S.
