Inspired by true events and executive produced by Robert Redford, the directorial debut of French actress-turned-director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre is a mesmerizing character study of a longtime prisoner who struggles to escape his past and rediscover his humanity.
Best known for his roles in acclaimed international films Bullhead and Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone, Matthias Schoenaerts stars as Roman, the tightly wound convict freshly out of solitary confinement at a maximum security prison in the Nevada Desert. Academy Award-nominated Bruce Dern is the no-nonsense horse trainer that spots Roman’s potential and recruits him into his rehabilitation program learning to train wild mustangs. He is paired with an unbreakable horse that challenges his own raging emotions and forces him to control himself and redirect the turbulent narrative of his life. This lyrical American Western of self-discovery is infused with a European sensibility similar to Wim Wenders Paris, Texas with stand-out supporting performances by Connie Britton, Jason Mitchel and Gideon Adlon.
