The “Producing in Florida and Beyond” seventh edition in conjunction with CineVisun and the BFMG will focus on various areas of production. Producer Andy Schefter works in the extreme: athletes, performers, vehicles, harsh geographic and weather conditions. He has filmed around the world producing some of the most unique content and will speak on how to get it done. Visual Effects guru Dean Lyon has worked on iconic films such as Independence Day, Armageddon, Kung Fu Panda and was a visual effects supervisor on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Dean breaks down the process that is utilized on most major films and episodic shows. Miami filmmaker Kenny Riches will speak about his new film, A Name Without a Place (2019). Producer/director Edson Jean (Grown) and actress/director Maria Corina Ramirez, will present their feature film project in development Bridges.
Kevin Sharpley is the President and CEO of Kijik Multimedia Inc. a full service production company with specialties in integrated, branded and convergent media. He is also Executive Director of CineVisun TransMedia a non-profit organization that supports the independent film, media and entertainment industry. His range of work includes films, television, documentary, commercial, music video, multi-media and event video production. Mr. Sharpley currently serves as the Chairman of the Miami Dade County Film and Entertainment Advisory Board appointed by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss. Mr. Sharpley holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami with a dual major in motion pictures and psychology in addition to an Associates of Arts degree from Miami Dade College. He was inducted into the Miami Dade College Hall of Fame in 2014.
Kenny Riches was born in Japan and raised in the USA. His filmmaking career began with the feature films Must Come Down (2013) and The Strongest Man (2015), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He is currently based in Miami, where he shot his latest film, A Name Without a Place (2019).
Edson Jean is an emerging Haitian-American actor, writer and director. He most recently directed all eight (23 minute) episodes of his original Project Greenlight Digital winning dramedy, Grown, for Complex Networks. Prior to that, he wrote, directed, and starred in The Adventures of Edson Jean (2013), which aired on HBO/HBOGO. On the screen, he was most recently seen in Moonlight, War Dogs, HBO’s Ballers and Bloodline (Netflix). Along creative partner Maria Corina Ramirez he is currently developing a TV show in partnership with Adaptive Studios and the feature film Bridges.
Maria Corina Ramirez is a Venezuelan-American actress, writer and producer whose original work has been seen and commissioned in Miami, Los Angeles, NY, and Latin America. She has starred in two NBC-Telemundo television series, two Cine Latino films and over a dozen national campaigns. She most recently starred in and co-wrote on Grown, alongside creative partner since college, Edson Jean.
Andy Schefter has been working in film production for over twenty years as a producer, line producer, unit production manager and sometimes director and assistant director. Some of his movie and TV work include Plastic, Finding Joy, Bully, Empire, Vendetta, The Last Marshal, Landfall, Grapevine and a number of others. Andy is well versed in short form content, having done hundreds of commercials and music videos. Some of his past work include projects for Wyclef, Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, R. Kelly, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Gloria Estefan, Trick Daddy and many others. He is also active in the production community. He was recently on the Executive Board of directors of Film Florida for two years, is currently on the board of the Florida Film Production Coalition, the board of non-profit Cinevisun and is on the PAC for Miami International University of Art and Design.
Dean Lyon has 30+ years of experience in collaborating with cutting edge directors, studios, production companies, post-production facilities and technology developers throughout the world. He is passionate about the potential of creative use of technology to transform the art of visual story-telling. Dean’s career has included roles as producer, artist, inventor and entrepreneur, working on motion pictures, music videos, theme park attractions and virtual reality.
